Chamomile is one of those ancient medicinal herbs that's been around for so long that we willingly accept drinking it as a tea. In fact there are many different brands of chamomile tea and it is often recommended as a mild sedative. But aside from its sedative effects, it also is said to have anti-inflammatory properties and some studies have suggested that it can inhibit the growth of some types of bacteria that are linked to ulcers of the stomach. Chamomile is a flower resembles a daisy and is quite safe for most people although some may be a bit of allergic to pollen of this flower.

Feverfew

This herb is not to be taken lightly as it can have some side effects such as mouth ulcers and skin inflammation. It is thought by some to reduce the absorption of iron and may interact with migraine medications which is ironic because it is said to help treat migraines. This bushy perennial contains substances that may help treat migraines as well as inflammation.

Ginseng

This ancient Chinese herb has gotten a lot of press lately as a herb that can help enhance sexual performance. However, before you go running out to the store to buy some we must caution that this has not been proven. Ginseng is said to reduce blood sugar levels and increase your levels of good cholesterol. This herb also has some side effects, and it can bring on an asthma attack if overused. It can also reduce blood sugar levels if used to excess. It does have some compounds that are similar to estrogen so anyone who is breast-feeding and pregnant should not take this herb.

Medicinal herbs are good to use because they are natural. However, this does not mean that they can't also be harmful if used improperly. In addition, herbs may interact with the medications you are currently taking so if you are considering taking any new herb you should consult your doctor first.
